Happy Endings

Below are some stories from people who've adopted a rescue pet from DCH Animal Adoptions.

Sacha & Pepe

Hi Megan
As promised here are the photos of Pepe and Sacha in Dec and Feb. Both are doing really well and are great fun to have around.
All the best,

Sacha & Pepe were adopted together on 23/12/06 after 1 week in foster care.
Mindy Moo

Hi Judy
We adopted Mindi Moo (now Milly) on Saturday and I just wanted to email you a picture of her new best friend at her forever home. Words just can not explain how thrilled we all are to have Milly with us and she really is the most delightful puppy. She has settled in well and her new nickname is wiggly worm, as she wiggles and squirms when she is excited and you pick her up J
She loves playing with Mishca and they act like best friends racing around the house and yard together. Mishca loves to clean Milly’s face and is always preening her like she is a baby! We are so glad to have found Milly and thank you for the wonderful work you all do in saving these precious babies from situations their sweet little souls should never be put in! Thank you so much, and I’ll keep in touch with Milly’s progress. Please pass our thanks onto Lauren for taking the time to spend with us on Saturday she is a lovely women with a big heart!
Warm regards,

Mindy Moo was adopted on 18/03/07 after 1 month in foster care.
George

Hi
We adopted George via Ann in February We have attached a picture to show how happy George is (a direct result of the good work done by DCH)

George was adopted on 02/02/07 after 2 months in foster care.
Nellie

Hi Melanie
Not sure if you remember me but I was going through some of my computer files and came across our original communication. I wondered if you would like a couple of updated shots of our Nellie, a very happy and healthy dog!! She has settled down (finally!), after costing us a fortune in plants, and is the most beautiful, kind and affectionate dog. She loves us and we love her, she's very spoilt, has two pug friends who mind her when we go away and has even been on holidays with them when they go camping at dog friendly beaches. We cannot keep her out of water!! Any way Melanie, all of us-including Nellie-thank you for introducing us!!!
Regards

Nellie was adopted on 03/10/05 after 1 month in foster care.
Joey

Hi
A quick update on Jovey. He's wonderful, and settling in really well. Had a great holiday up at the sunshine coast, and was a trouper on the plane. We all stressed on the way up, but the way back was easy - he knew we'd be waiting at the other end with cuddles, so was quite relaxed. Of course he had Big Ted with him (the one you gave him). He really is a good lad.
He loves the beach, but is quite a scaredy cat - which isn't a bad thing. We take him swimming down at the harbour at rozelle quite often, and he loves to wade, but isn't keen to take the leap to swimming. Someone suggested to us that he might be german short haired pointer cross (instead of cattle dog) but judging by his timidness with the water we don't think so! He's put on at least a kilo, and is a fine-looking boy. Neighbours comment he's growing, but we can't see it ourselves - hard to tell when we spend 16 hours a day with him!
All the best

JOey was adopted on 14/11/06 after 3 months in foster care.
Sunshine's Litter

Just thought you may be intersted to see all the puppies from the litter that Sunshine (now Jessie) was part of. We all meet up in a off lease dog park. I think it will be a yearly event. We are all very pleased with our dogs thanks to you and all at DCH.

In fact recently one of the new dogs in the street also comes from DCH. Lexi who was with Gail for some time. She is half German Shepherd, Border collie I think. Jessie and her often meet on the Golf course each morning at 6.30 am.
Cheers

Sunshine was adopted on 11/08/06 after 1 month in foster care.
Nanuk & Kavik

Hi
I thought that I would send you some photos of Nanuk and Kavik, that were adopted off you. They are both doing very well, and see each other regularly. Haydn loves taking Nanuk for walks, and it is often a fight to see who can sit on the floor first to sit with the dog, but I think that there is enough of him to go around. At last weigh, Nanuk was up to 35 kilos, but that was about two months ago, and he has done some growing since then. He is still a very cuddly dog, and would still like to be able to climb up on our laps. The photo with the small boy laying on Nanuk is our 4yo godson. We often come in and find them laying together like this. Nanuk is just so quiet and good with kids. Kavik, who was adopted by my sister in law, is probably even more spolied than Nanuk, and the mother in law talks to her friends about her three grandsons, Haydn (our 12 yo son), Nanuk and Kavik. Thanks again for the opportunity to have these dogs, they have become loved members of our family.

Nanuk and Kavik were adopted on 15/06/06 after 1 and a half months in foster care.
Hermione

Hi
Hermione, now Charlotte, is fantastic! She is an amazingly confident cat. Within a few hours of her arriving she was walking about the house without a worry. She adapted to her new environment really quickly and has been very comfortable around visitors in the house. She has caused us absolutely no problems or worry either - she has always used her litterbox, doesn't scratch at the furniture or carpet and just seems happy a lot.
Laura and I have been around the house a lot lately so she has been getting lots of attention. She is quite playful too. When she is in her frisky moods we usually dangle toys over the top of her scratching pole, tempting her to run up the pole to bat at the toy. She has developed a fair bit of muscle around her shoulders and hind legs because of this. We did get her some catnip spray as extra encouragement to use her scratching pole and mat for her own leisure, but she did not seem particularly interested in it. However, the toys she has which have catnip in them seem to interest her much more than those without, so maybe we will try getting some catnip leaves and seeing how she reacts.
Charlotte has bonded to us very quickly, and is affectionate with both Laura and I. Mostly she sleeps on the bed I made for her (out of old towels and a mango tray) but lately she has discovered her latest favourite spot - sitting on top of the subwoofer of my computer. The vibrations seem to relax her. Her favourite music seems to be slower acoustic, especially female singers. As far as her day to day habits she tends to sleep most of the day. She is most active early in the mornings and later at night. The cat from downstairs came in for a visit once Charlotte was settled in. Him being a dominant cat he tried to bully her, but Charlotte being equally dominant hissed at him till he ran out of the apartment and has left us alone since. Charlotte has brought a lot to the lives of Laura and I. We fell in love with her very quickly and is the queen of our house.
Thank you again for holding her for us. She is the perfect pet!

Hermione was adopted on 20/11/06 after 3 months in foster care.
Scamp

Hi Francine
I just wanted to share a few pictures of Scamp and give you an update. He is great and we all love him heaps.
He had a good Christmas and Santa was kind to him and left lots of yummy things in his stocking. We also had a fun day at the beach just after Christmas which was very exciting for Scamp who spent the whole day attacking waves as they came into shore. Unfortunately I did not take my camera to the beach so no pictures of that day. He has really taken to swimming in the dam at home, some days he swims 4 or 5 times and just swims around and around. He goes for so long I sometimes get worried and call him out but he gets straight back in. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
Bye for now

Scamp was adopted on 12/11/06 after 2 months in foster care.
Opal and Ginger

They're both doing well, very talkative, demanding, and mischief-makers. He's the Lord of the Lap (always sleeping on my partner's knees); she's the Queen of the Comp (always sleeping on my computer's keyboard). He's double her size, she's still a delicate little thing. Picture attached (v. proud of them both, need to share:))
Do you know anything about their siblings? I hope they're doing well, the other orange male was precious!

Opal and Ginger were adopted together on 19/08/06 after only a week in foster care.
Sugar

Hi
Sugar, now known as Chelsea has settled into our family and we love her to bits! She loves going for walks at the beach; and meeting lots of new doggy friends. She is convinced that all dogs were put on earth in order to play chasings with her. She also has a tennis ball obsession; and we often can’t throw it enough for her.
At home she has her new big sister Rascal to play with. They chase each other round the garden, jumping in and out of their two paddling pools. When Rascal has had enough, Chelsea will lie next to her and whine at her to get her to play more. If this fails Chelsea then starts to pull-on Rascals tail until Rascal gets up and chastises Chelsea; this usually ends in a wrestling match which is their second favourite game! Have a Merry Christmas and we pray that all the other dogs and cats find their new “forever” homes soon.
Best wishes

Sugar was adopted on 10/09/06 after 1 and half months in foster care.
Mystic & Magic

Hi Danielle,
Hope the week has been OK so far. Thought you might like to know how the little ones are going.
I have named them Pepper (the non-shy fiesty one) and Pia ( she has a tiny piece of white under her neck, and those amazing eyes that follow you everywhere!!) We are all settling in really well. Pia remains a little shy at times but loves coming up on her own terms for cuddles. Pepper has no fear, and as I first yesterday when got home from work she came out to greet me. I had them both on my lap last night purring away. Owww... Mum was very proud.
They love playing together, and especially love my tri-level scratching post. Pepper's favourite game is in a little cat tunnel and Pia's is either ping pong soccer or chasing Mum's feet under the doona. Their favourite game together is playing chasings all over Mum in bed at 4:30 in the morning!!!
They love their food - Pepper is a complete guts and I have to make sure Pia is getting some as well, and they already know that if they wait long enough the yummy wet food will come out! Have Mum wrapped around their little paws already.
Thank-you so much for all the care and love you gave them, they are going to grow up to be lovely cats because of it. I'll send more updates soon.

Regards

Mystic and Magic were adopted together on 29/11/06 after 1 month in foster care.
Smoochie

Dear Becky
Smoochie seems to be settling in well with growing confidence each day. She has been trying to get outside now (but have the cat flap locked) but we don’t want her to go outside for at least another 2 weeks, and then under supervision.
Smoochie spent the first night on Michelle’s bed (see photo); since then she sleeps on the end of her bed every night. The first few days Smoochie liked to hide under a bed, and only came out to eat or get on the bed with Michelle. The last 3 days Smoochie has been exploring the rest of the house and has even eaten from the other cat’s food bowl.
I’m glad Smoochie has been settling in so much more as she can be so timid. She is doing more cat like things, like jumping on a bed during the day, and sitting on the window sill sunning herself.
Regards

Smoochie was adopted on 15/4/06 after 6 months in foster care.

Splodge

Judith,
I thought I might just give you a quick update on The Splodger
He was very good on the long journey to Berowra - moaned for the first 5kms and then was very quiet after that.
He has spent the last few days discovering his new environment - sniffing a lot and sneezing a lot. He seems happiest when we have my young nieces and nephews over - a hangover from the environment he was brought up in I'm sure.
Just to let you know that the lad has settled in really well.
He's very affectionate and seems to love a cuddle from anybody. Above all, he seems very happy.
Some pics - he loves shoes

Splodge was adopted on 2/1/06 after 13 months in foster care.
Smith

Smith has settled in so well with Kieren and I. He is one of the happiest dogs I've ever had. He is always excited to see us when we come home and always greet us with a happy smile and an affectionate hug. We absolutely love him. I've enrolled him in training at the local dog club, which he is thoroughly enjoying. We go every Sunday morning for two hours - which they told me on Sunday that he's getting fat!!! How rude! :-) and we get a 15 minute break - and all he does in the break is play with all the other dogs! He is such a social dog and loves people and other animals. He has made a friend at the dog club - a boxer named Leica. He gets so excited when he sees her and they run around after each other. We have already moved up a class and are now out of the beginners class. On Friday evenings they run flyball and agility runs which I'm thinking of entering him in just for fun.
I hope you like the photos (he is a hard subject to take photos of as he never sits still). I still look at the DCH website every now and again and always see that you've got new dogs.
Thanks. Hope all is well.

Smith was adopted on 14/8/05 after 2 months in foster care.
Clayton

Hi,
I thought I would drop you a quick note to let you know that how Clayton (now Playdoh) is doing. He has settled well into city living and is just the most sociable big smooch with the neighbours and my friends! His favourite things are moth/fly/roach stalking /chasing, morning cuddles and his bi-weekly brush. He always has a lot to say for himself particularly when I get home at night and then rounds around like a maniac post-dinner just to make sure he burns off his tea! Still, its been wonderful having him around and he is just the best furry friend you could ask for.
Kind Regards

Clayton was adopted on 1/8/05 after only 2 months in foster care.
Mr D

Just wanted to let you know that I really like my new home. I get to watch the fish tanks, sleep on the beds, play on the lawn and climb trees. The humans here love me lots and spend alot of time playing with me and giving me cuddles which I don't mind at all.
Thanks for everything you did for me and especially for my new family.............
Love Mr. D (now known as Whuz)
PURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR........................

Mr D was adopted on 22/8/05 after only 1 week in foster care.
Max

Hi,
Thought I'd write and send you some new pictures of max just so you know his still doing okay..
He's getting smarter by the day, he's such a good dog...every day we love him more :-) he loves his bones, can't get him away from them... hee hee he finds it a game where he barks at you and picks up his bone which means he wants you to chase him and try to get it off him. He always drops it after a couple of steps.although he keeps running.... hasn't figured out that he needs to hold onto it haha. he also plays hide and seek where he makes me chase him then he hides and waits for me to find him or i hide and he goes looking for me and when he finds me he barks with glee.. he really is such a good doggie.. bye bye

Max was adopted on 9/3/05 after 3 weeks in foster care.
Gary

Hello!!

Thank you so much for saving him, he is my best friend!! And is the best horse I have ever ridden!
I have been having so much fun with Moloko (I know his real name is Boloka but Moloko has sort of stuck)! When he came out of the truck he was so sweet, he just stood there and munched on grass while I brushed and showed him off to my also excited neighbour, Andrea. He was so cute and perfect, and I was so excited!! Narekesh wasn't coming near us until the truck left, but as soon as it left, he came cantering over. Moloko sniffed his nose and stamped his foreleg and that was the end of it.
Later when Narekesh had gone back to his corner in the paddock and I let Moloko go, Moloko cantered over to Narekesh and the walked of together. I haven't seen them fighting or bulling each other, and they don't have any cuts or scratches to say that they have been. The next day I took Moloko for a ride using my bareback pad and his bridle and Jennifer was on Narekesh. Mum was walking with us, and keeping in charge of Narekesh. We went for a great ride, and Moloko was great. He was enjoying being out and about on the trails around the area. After I brushed Moloko and I let him the paddock with Narekesh, and left both their halters on so I could catch them easily the next day. When that next day came, I went in to find that Moloko had no halter! I had done the halter as I would normally would, not to loose. But, I had to walk 16 acres to try to find it. I was amazed that he took it of but I thought maybe I had done the halted to loose. I went for a ride when I found it anyway with mum and Jennifer and Narekesh. I left his halter on and the next day I came back to find that he had the halter over one ear. I pushed it back and left it on. This would happen every time I would go and see him. Well, I went riding with my usual crowd plus my neighbour, and after that I left his halter on. I came back the next day and his halter has gone! Wow, he has a great trick. I can't imagine how he gets it off. It was tight. Maybe he is trying to tell me something, "I don't need no halter". So I think I will leave it off. Hehehe. We have great fun and he is getting some energy with all the grass in our paddock. He is a great height for me. When I did take him out for a ride with my neighbour, when we where coming home, he was getting a bit silly and wanted to trot down a slight sloping track. He was getting hard to slow and didn't want to walk, but I kept him at a walk. He was fighting and threw his head up and did a small rear. Nothing scary, but I got mum to walk him for a bit but he was still prancing around like a silly. So I hoped off and walked him down for a bit. When he had settled down I hoped back on and he was fine. I think maybe because it was getting dark, we were going home, and he wanted to lead and Andrea's horse was being pulley too. Plus he didn't want to walk. hehehe. But I don't think we know each other that well to go trotting down a sloped track at dusk. But otherwise he is good. The same sort of behaviour was put on when I wanted to walk him away from Narekesh the day before. But I persisted and made him walk two paces in my direction without stopping and fighting me, and then I turned him around and let him happily walk back to Narekesh and the gate. I know he is new, and probably wants to stay with the other horses, so I will give him a lot of choosing his own path, but I wasn't going to let him do that twirl and trot plus 5cm rear and let his think he can get away with it. He hasn't done it again, and walks away now. He likes it when I ride on a long rein, so I use it whenever I can. And he has such a lovely movement!! I can't wait till I take him to Pony Club in July. Yea!!
Anyway, here is a photo of him and me in the paddock, I was using Narekeshs halter because at the time Moloko had lost his own. So Narekesh doesn't want to show his face because he isn't dresses right. But he still wanted to be in the photo. :)
Well better go,
**Cathryn**

Gary was adopted on 17/3/05 after 5 months in foster care.
Barnsey

Barnsey was adopted on 19/7/05 after 2 weeks in foster care.
Maximus and Rebekah

Dear Judith
Just a little note to let you know how happy and settled Max and Rebekah are. Rebekah completely took over the house the first day she arrived, No more of that timid cat stuff for her!! They are both gorgeous. Max loves to sit on knees and have a cuddle. Bekki prefers to sit beside you in the evenings, loves a cuddle in the morning but prefers her beanbag at night. Thanks so much for what you do - you are wonderful!

Maximus and Rebekah were adopted on 30/4/05 after 2 months in foster care.
Gershwin and Suzy

Dear DCH,

I am very happy in my new home; my people are very nice to me, only I wish that my new mum wouldn’t wash me with a damp towelling mitten every morning. The rubbing bit is nice (especially on my belly) but it takes away my stink and I like my stink!

I almost have two homes because the old man next door gives me biscuits and talks to me everyday and the lady cuddles me – they gave me a bed too and now I have my own room built under the house where I can hear when my people are waking up, and the birds and cats can’t get my bones. (I get a bone at bed time every night!!)

My family give me lots of presents, I have my own daytime bed inside the house where I keep my toys (the rubber chicken is my favourite – it squeaks!). I also like to chase the yard broom, so now I have one all of my own – I can chew whenever I want. But of course it’s more fun when someone is sweeping with it.

Some of the dogs in our street seem very cross and they bark at me, but the little white three legged dog up the street is very nice and we play when ever I see him. Johnson is very nice too – he’s also white and fluffy but I’ve only seen him once and I was a bit scared that time, because one of the cross dogs had been barking at me first.

I’ve been in the car again and not to go to a smelly place where they stick sharp things in your skin (I hate that). We went to these other people and they cuddled me too and made a big fuss of me – I didn’t really want to get back in the car to come home.

Sometimes other people come to visit the house and they all make a big fuss of me and give me presents – yesterday people came with a puppy-person, and I let her share my bed. She let me hold one of her toys but when I grabbed it, it made a horrible kind of song and I didn’t like that, so I dropped it again. That was ok because the puppy-person gave me a new toy I could keep – I’ve been shaking that all morning and now I’m tired.

I’m getting a big boy now my tail doesn’t touch the ground anymore (it seems to be shrinking a lot), I don’t make any puddles inside the house ever (and I never made lumps by the way.)

Thanks for taking such good care of me and teaching me such good manners – my new people think I’m very well behaved.

Lots of love Gershwin (PS my new name is Buddy – because I’m everyone’s little buddy – even the postman!)

Gershwin was adopted on 3/4/05 after a month and a half in foster care.
Diana and Camilla

Hi Judith,
My two lovely girls are doing very well. They have settled in so quickly it seems like they have been with me forever. They seem to like their new home and jump the back fence all the time to go exploring. I have even had the man down the back say that they were stealing his cats food! They love visitors and are so friendly and get to sleep on my bed every night. They are very spoiled but they deserve it as they give me so much joy.
All in all they are the lights of my life - it is so nice to come home to them instead of an empty house. They are always there to greet me, even though it is mainly because they want their dinner!

Diana and Camilla were adopted on 20/5/05 after just over 1 year in foster care.
